IMPORT PROCEDURE GUIDE FOR BRIDGE DEVICES
Bridge devices are often described too broadly as “network devices”, creating classification risks across HS code, ICT compliance and C/O treatment. A small mismatch in model, interface, wireless capability or data transmission function may lead to additional document requests, customs channel escalation, denial of preferential C/O treatment, or unplanned DEM/DET charges. This guide provides an E2E (End-to-End) operational map covering technical identification, HS code, duties, C/O, specialized policies, customs documents and pre-ETA risk control.

SCOPE OF APPLICATION
Applicable product
This guide applies to network bridge devices used to connect, forward or segment data traffic between network segments, typically operating at the data-link layer or equivalent in a LAN/WAN system.
Not automatically applicable to other variants
Switches, gateways, media converters, network adaptors, routers, modems and access points may require different HS codes, ICT policies, conformity requirements or permits. Review the catalogue, datasheet, model and actual import purpose.
- New, used, refurbished, sample, warranty replacement and project cargo may trigger different policies.
- Wireless modules, Bluetooth/4G/5G, VPN, encryption, firewall/security, power adaptors or accessories must be reviewed separately.
- Network cards, replacement modules, PCBs and spare parts should not be treated as complete bridge devices without technical review.
CLASSIFICATION & TECHNICAL IDENTIFICATION

FAQ
Does importing a bridge require a permit?
Do not conclude absolutely. A standard wired bridge may not trigger a separate permit, but wireless, encryption/VPN/security functions may require further review.
Is conformity assessment required?
It depends on HS, product description, wireless function and group-2 goods list at the import time.
Can C/O reduce duty?
Possibly, if a valid C/O and applicable FTA origin rule are satisfied. With MFN 0%, C/O may still support origin documentation but should be assessed practically.
Is a wireless bridge the same as an access point?
No. They may both use Wi‑Fi, but function, HS and technical policy must be reviewed by actual model.
What if invoice model differs from catalogue?
Request document amendment or manufacturer confirmation before declaration.
Are sample/warranty goods handled like commercial goods?
Not always. Customs regime, value, purpose and post-clearance obligations must be reviewed.
