WI-FI MODULE IMPORT PROCEDURE IN VIETNAM

A Wi-Fi module may look like a small component, but import clearance often fails at HS classification, radio-frequency policy, conformity dossier, labeling and model consistency. CLASSIFICATION & TECHNICAL IDENTIFICATION

Wi-Fi modules are identified by wireless data transmission/reception function, IEEE 802.11 standard, operating band, output power, antenna arrangement, UART/SPI/SDIO/USB/PCIe interface and host-device integration purpose.

PRACTICAL E2E PROCESS

Pre-ETA review. Fix HS, ICT policy, taxes, C/O, labeling, condition and permit/conformity exposure.
Lock documents and technical dossier. Finalize Invoice, Packing List, B/L/AWB, catalogue, datasheet, model list, RF specification and test report.
Specialized registration/conformity if applicable. Prepare model-based dossier by frequency, output power and QCVN.
Customs declaration. Prepare explanation for HS, goods name, model, value, C/O, catalogue and specialized policy in Yellow/Red channel.
Clearance, delivery and post-clearance file retention. Arrange delivery, labels/conformity marks if applicable and retain shipment dossier.

FAQ

Does Wi-Fi module import require an import permit?

No absolute conclusion should be made. Review the model, frequency, output power, independent-operation capability and import purpose.

Is conformity certification/declaration required?

Possibly, if the model falls under ICT Group-2 and relevant QCVN. Review Circular 29/2025/TT-BKHCN and the technical dossier.

Can HS 8517.62.59 be used for all Wi-Fi modules?

No. It is a reference code for wireless data transmission/reception modules. Pure ICs or finished devices may be classified differently.

Is Vietnamese sub-label required?

For goods circulated in Vietnam, labeling rules must be reviewed and Vietnamese sub-labels should be prepared when required.

Can C/O reduce duties?

It may. MFN is already 0% for the reference code, but C/O remains important for FTA treatment and origin management.

Are sample/R&D shipments handled like commercial shipments?

Not automatically. Import purpose, quantity, user and specialized policy must be reviewed.

What if the module also has Bluetooth/Zigbee/NFC?
